Lezyne Super GPS reviewed, by Mark
After years of using one particular brand of GPS units, I fancied a change; so far I’m very impressed with the Lezyne Super GPS.
I opted for the Lezyne Enhanced Super GPS as it has the largest display and is compatible with both Bluetooth and ANT+ sensors; and at just £129 for the head unit I may as well get the top of the range!
My initial concerns about the lack of touchscreen buttons were unfounded, the side buttons on the Lezyne Super GPS are so much easier to use when wearing full fingered gloves. The battery life is astonishing at up to 24 hours, so if you’re out on an epic ride there’s no need to carry a powerbank to top up the charge. I find the menus very intuitive once you get the basics and no longer need to refer to the instructions. My favourite things about it are the fact it displays text messages on screen, along with WhatsApp and FaceBook messenger notifications. It’s also extremely useful to see the battery levels of not only the GPS unit, but your phone and all sensors! Pretty unique eh?
If Strava-bashing is your thing and you’re a premium member, then you’ll appreciate the live segment notifications. For those who like to plan routes in advance, you can create them on the Lezyne GPS website and send them to your device through your phone. I tend to use RideWithGPS to create my route and save it to my PC as a gpx or tcx file; this can then be uploaded to GPS Root. Another fantastic feature is the ability to search for a postcode or address on your Lezyne GPS Ally app on your phone, decide on the route, then cast it over to the GPS unit for turn by turn directions. Another handy feature is Live Tracking, where you can share your ride “as-it-happens” with whoever you like so they can track your progress.
As would be expected, it is weatherproof, has customizable screens, is compatible with power meters, Di2 etc. It also seems pretty future-proof, as Lezyne continuously develop the software and offer firmware updates where necessary.
Overall I have been really pleased with this great little bit of kit and can recommend it highly.
