E-Biking, Sunday 24th of September 2017
I decided to join my Son in Law Andrew who has just bought a Giant FastRoad electric bike for a ride out.
I was going to try out my new Giant TCR Advanced Pro, but thought that we would be better matched if I was on an E-bike as well so I decided to take our shop demo bike, a Giant Road E.
The bikes have three power settings, economy, normal and power, or they can be ridden with no assistance at all.
We set off from Baycliff along the Coast Road to Ulverston with the assistance turned off for most of the way. Climbing up Soutergate I switched between economy and normal mode not wanting to take all of the effort away!! Turning left up towards the windmills we both went to power mode for the steeper sections, what an experience, the power from the Yamaha motor made easy work of the steep climbs as we rode past several road bikers.
We rode on through Marton to Dalton, up Cemetery hill at over 13 mph, left to Stainton on through Gleaston, Scales and back to Baycliff
As the assistance is regulated to 15.5 mph you still get a decent workout (it’s not like riding a moped!)
We had a thoroughly enjoyable and quick 22 mile ride, back in time to get stuck into the gardening.
On checking the onboard computer, I still had 71% left in the battery and approx. 63 more miles.
Andrew’s normal road bike is now for sale, he is completely converted.
I will let you know how I get on with my new TCR with Di2 in a couple of weeks!!
